Second Anniversary

On January 23, 2009 I was diagnosed with Paget's Disease, a rare form of breast cancer. The Story Circle Network has a new blog called One Woman's Day that asks a woman to select a day that holds special meaning for her and write a post about it for that date. I chose January 23rd. I submitted two posts.  That day was so dense with shock and fear that I had written two extensive journal entries and gleaned my posts from those. You can read  A Harbinger and the First Sign  and The Third Sign's the Charm by clicking on the titles.

The beautiful fiber art below was made by my friend Kate Burch. I keep it in my kitchen where I am reminded daily of the beauty and power of friendship and to take a moment to be thankful for my recovery from breast cancer and to pray for the women facing it today.

  3. Susan and Kate, I am so fortunate to have women friends who inspire me and encourage me to live a creative life. I'm allowing myself to connect with my body and to trust what my body reveals. I hope by the end of my year of being sixty, spirit, mind, and body will be in harmony! Sensuous is good!

  5. Jen, Have you been diagnosed with Paget's? I had my surgery at The Cleveland Clinic and my doctor there printed out the information available to physicians. Although that was a bit scary, I wanted to know all the facts. Aside from that, I just googled and found references at most of the top medical sites. Because it is somewhat rare, I had a difficult time finding someone else with Paget's of the breast. I was so lucky to have such an early diagnosis. If you clicked on the links in the posts you understand why I feel so fortunate. If you would like to talk more personally, please do not hesitate to email me directly. I joined a local breast cancer group and found a great deal of support there. I had my radiation treatments during breast cancer month so there were all kinds of seminars to attend. I wish you well!
